🖌🐾This year’s Finding a Furever Home Summer Camp students discovered how art can make a difference for animals in need.
This week, our campers combined creativity and compassion as they learned about the amazing work of @symbioticsuffolk Symbiotic Inc., a foster-based animal rescue here in Suffolk. The highlight? A special visit from one of their adorable puppies!🐶💛
Campers created portraits of adoptable pets, crafted paper mâché animals, and explored how art can raise awareness and support for furry friends in need of loving homes. Each day began with energizing morning yoga, and we wrapped up the week with a showcase for family and friends: celebrating both their art and the animals who inspired it.

On Friday, August 15 from 6 PM – 8 PM, The Suffolk Center will host an evening of conversation, culture, and creativity. Free and open to the public.
Our moderator, Desmond Ellsworth, will guide a discussion with three incredible speakers: ✨Jay Richardson Grebe – Rappahannock descendant, artist, and food sovereignty advocate weaving art with community action. ✨Charles Gray – Piscataway artist and dancer keeping cultural traditions alive through quillwork. ✨Deborah Wilkinson – Upper Mattaponi artist crafting one-of-a-kind gourd art inspired by nature and heritage. Each will share their unique perspectives, the significance of their communities, and the inspiration behind their art.

Artists of all skill levels are welcome to paint or draw in their preferred medium during this relaxed, 3-hour open studio session. Bring your own supplies, set up your easel, and let the scene inspire your next masterpiece.
